The event, formed of teams of artists all flexing there muscles for creative cardio, acts like the childhood game of consequences – one artist produces a piece and then the consecutive team member reacts with their own artwork, and so on and so forth. The culmination of the relay is an exhibition throughout August in KK’s Hoxton Square location. Working together in Team Two is Danny Sangra, Andrew De Francesco, Jackie Young and Will Bryant. Danny Sangra is a multidiscipline artist who, although very young, has had success both commercially and in the art world. Sangra began Team Two’s relay with what he describes as, ‘a random little video clip I made by chopping up old TV coverage of Daley Thompson at the Olympics”, with, we’re told, chopped up sound, “very 80s British BBV TV sports commentator.” Also Dollop are in the line-up for the Art Relay, having produced four clips of swimming relays - of which we today premiere an exclusive trailer! Dazed Digital: Are you excited for the Olympics?Danny Sangra: I wish I was but it feels like it’s more for people that don’t live in London. Plus there seems to be a fleet of buses stuck down my road on diversion DD: How did you get involved with the ArtRelay?Danny Sangra: I've been in a couple of projects with the KK Outlet and I like what they are about. So, when they asked me to start my teams relay I quickly agreed. When I get bored with one medium I work in another. To me its all image making. Everyone uses a different balance of subject matter in his or her work, which is what makes someone's style unique (or copied), if you understand what your balance is then it can be applied into any visual medium DD: What was it like working with your team?Danny Sangra: Andrew De Francesco is a good friend of mine but we hadn't found a chance to work together. I was in New York when he shot his relay project so it was interesting to watch him work with what I gave him. DD: Why did you decide to make a video of Daley Thompson?Danny Sangra: Daley Thompson WAS the Olympics when I was a kid. DD: You've worked in many mediums - graphic design, illustration, photography and video - do you find that they inform each other, and if so why?Danny Sangra: When I get bored with one medium I work in another. To me its all image making. Everyone uses a different balance of subject matter in his or her work, which is what makes someone's style unique (or copied), if you understand what your balance is then it can be applied into any visual medium. So, in that way yes they do inform each other.
