He’s also been busy cutting himself a niche as contemporary Italo-Disco producer of note under the moniker Muravchix. With A-Trak favourite ‘Tropical Warrior’ still doing the rounds and a set at Digital Art and music shindig Grok Institute coming up, we caught up with Sebastian to talk remixes, the meaning of italo and John Carpenter. Dazed Digital: So, what’s been going on?Sebastian Muravchik: At the moment Heartbreak is keeping me really busy. We're doing lots of remixes and gigging. We just finished the NME Radar tour and are off to Barcelona for Sonar. Then it's Glastonbury.DD:Your sound as Muravchix is different from the Heartbreak stuff. What’s the inspiration behind it?Sebastian Muravchik: My solo stuff as Muravchix, which is mainly instrumental, is also a space where I can experiment a bit more with film music, influenced by everything from Claudio Simonetti and Goblin to Morricone and back to Carpenter. But it's still always Italo-influenced dancefloor stuff for now. At the moment I'm quite heavily into minimal synth and the whole minimal wave thing, synthwave and even darkwave, and stuff like German and Scandinavian post-punk. So I might go on those directions at some point, less disco sometimes, maybe.DD: Are you excited about playing Grok?Sebastian Muravchik: Yeah, totally looking forward to it. I'll be spinning some disco vinyl, but also some Detroit techno classics and darker stuff for fun.DD: Have you got any new tracks or remixes dropping soon?Sebastian Muravchik: We've done a lot lately with Heartbreak, we got a couple of remixes for Simian Mobile Disco, Saint Etienne, Bunny Lake, and others. We've done a lot of remixing in the last year. I personally enjoy the challenge and learn a lot as a producer from it. I’m so busy right now I struggle to find the time to dedicate to my solo stuff, but I can't wait to get some more released.Muravchix at Grok Institute Micro Format at Dalston Superstore on July 9.
