The London-based electronic duo SOCIETY are a mysterious musical offering that seamlessly meld electronica and rock’n’roll in a glamorous and uniquely twisted sonic mash-up. Formed in the summer of 2008, and taking their lead from bands as diverse as Suicide, Brainticket and The Electric Prunes, Crack Francisco and Mustang Ford have already built up quite a following in Paris with their dark, psyche-infused electronic soundscapes (they were quickly offered an EP deal by the Paris-based label Asphalt Duchess in November, after an electric performance at La Flèche D'or), and they were one of the stand out acts to play My Ex Boyfriend’s Records last year. Don't be fooled by the underground slant and the weird pseudonyms, though, this music is full of subtle pop hooks, stark dance floor grooves and swirling, haunting melodies. They release their self-titled debut EP this March, so we thought we’d catch up with the self-deprecating pair to find out just what their music is all about...

Society play at Punk 18th February. The Rules of Attraction EP out in March.

Q&A
What’s…
…so special about you guys, then?
Crack Francisco: We are perfectly imperfect.
Mustang Ford: We are practically perfect in every single way… a bit like a pill-popping Mary Poppins.

...the first line of your manifesto?
Crack Francisco: Life is sooooooooo short. Make sure you at least enjoy it.
Mustang Ford: Get a grip on your self and get the hell on with it.

…kind of society are you?
Crack Francisco: A society looking at yours.
Mustang Ford: We are a society of owls.

…the best piece of advice you've heard?
Crack Francisco: Mind the gap.
Mustang Ford: I’m a big fan of ‘See How It All Pans Out’ – I’m actually thinking of starting a religion called S.H.I.P.O based on precisely that philosophy.

…this year's going to bring?
Crack Francisco: A lot more new songs and remixes.
Mustang Ford: Some Bank Holidays? Some other cool shit.

Crack Francisco: "Alice in Magic Mushroom Land"
Mustang Ford: “My People Were Fair And Had Sky In Their Hair… But Now They're Content To Wear Stars On Their Brows”.

…better, analogue or digital?
Crack Francisco: Analog, for it's imperfections. Digital makes our life easier, but it's only a cheap imitation of the real deal
Mustang Ford: We try to employ both in a sort of dirty futuristic ménage a trios.

…your favourite piece of clothing?
Crack Francisco: Definitely my gloves at the moment.
Mustang Ford: Wonder Woman’s outfit!

…the name of your hero?
Crack Francisco: I have a few.
Mustang Ford: I’m keeping that secret!

…so special about your hero?
Crack Francisco: He's over-rated, but doesn't really know about it yet.
Mustang Ford: Everything.

…your favourite instrument?
Crack Francisco: My noisy analog Korg.
Mustang Ford: The Triangle is a much-overlooked instrument, full of infinite possibilities.

…your worst fashion secret?
Crack Francisco: Next question please.
Mustang Ford: My taste in heels is pretty fucking shocking!

….your favourite website?
Crack Francisco: www.bookaflightandgoonholidays.com/withnostops
Mustang Ford: fatflyingnunsfuckedonacid.com… it’s an ongoing nun-based side project.

… at the top of your shit list?
Crack Francisco: Jealous people.
Mustang Ford: War. Famine. Miley Cyrus. Not necessarily in that order.

 …your music all about?
Crack Francisco: Missing the point.
Mustang Ford: Flying blind on a rocket cycle.
