Lamb's Conduit Street just got darker but it's by no means bleak, as concept store Darkroom is set to open. Based on the theory that someone who's interested in a beautiful piece of jewellery might well be into attractive objects for the home, graphic designer Lulu Drakeford and textile designer Lulu Roper Cardbeck dreamt up the Darkroom where it would be a "marriage between fashion and interiors". The buying process has been carefully considered and both Cardbeck and Drakeford are keen on stocking designers and craftsmen that are not available anywhere else in the UK as well as focusing on beautiful design. The large corner unit on the fashionable yet tucked away hub of Lamb's Conduit Street has been given a black interior, which would have shrunk the space had the wooden floors not been given a geometric and monochrome paint treatment courtesy of Drakeford and Cardbeck's own design. Moveable canvas covered cubes are the display plinths used to show off the selection of items mixing fashion and interior objects together as if they are meant to blend seamlessly as one. Fashion wise, Cardbeck and Drakeford apply their eye for beautiful objects to choosing pieces for the store. So by focusing on accessories and jewellery, the Darkoom will host beaded necklaces by Florian, plaited chunky scarves by Von Sono, rope jewellery by Médicine Douce, giant zippered clutches by Borba Margo and structural harnesses by Fleet Ilya, who incidentally was the starting point for Cardbeck in finding like-minded designers.

Darkroom's black walls will also be inaugurated with an exhibition by illustrator and print designer Marcus James, who has worked on commissions for the likes of YSL and Chloe. Moving away from illustration, James has used found photographs to investigate stories of misfortune and create limited edition etchings out of them.

Darkroom open from December 9 on 52 Lamb's Conduit Street, London, WC1N 3LL
