Fortunately they've winged over to Paris to do just that in the exhibition space in colette in Paris. They have curated an exhibition of artists that are either collaborators of the Mulleavy sisters or people that are in their mindscape and so they're bringing us into their world that exists beyond the clothes. "There's something really delicate or strange about everything," explained Laura Mulleavy. So we have Kim Gordon's graffitied canvases brandished with tags like "Pussy Galore" and "Noise Nomads", David Benjamin Sherry's hyper reality landscape imagery, shimmering fairytale images by Karen Kilimnik depicting fictional queens and fairies and a genuinely crazed fan letter addressed to Kirsten Dunst (enlarged onto a poster that guests can take with them). You also have more haunting pieces Elliott Hundley's crumpled up "Mom As Medusa" print. On Alexandre De Betak's mini recreation of their S/S 09 show, Laura said "I love that Alex did the set for us. It's a perfect little robot world!". The walls were also filled with many backstage photographs by Autumn de Wilde, a close collaborator of Rodarte, reconfigured with plastic googly eyes, a logistical problem, according to Laura: "Everything took a lot longer than we thought like trying to find like a thousand googley eyes!". Then down a level, you also have a curated shop where besides Rodate's A/W 09 collection there are one-off or limited items like rag dolls made by the girls themselves dressed in Rodarte fare. A collaboration with Repetto means Rodarte's marble print can be found on a pair of ballet flats. There are also contributions from Nicholas Kirkwood, David Shrigley, Dennis Cooper, Marc Kroop, Miranda July and Opening Ceremony. "I think it was fun that we could pick things for people that we liked except it being just about our clothes."Rodarte exhibition and shop at Colette open until November 7 Escape the algorithm!
