Filmmaker Malcolm Pate notches up another fashion film with the dark LBD designer, that was shown at the Red Bull Fashion Factory.

We featured Malcolm Pate's film for Jean Pierre Braganza earlier this week, and here's his other S/S10 fashion film creation. Working with designer Hannah Marshall for the first time, together they came up with a night vision concept to showcase Marshall's sharp silhouettes (this season, *shock shock horror* she's ventured outside of her normal black palette). The film was shown last week at the Red Bull Fashion Factory after which, Marshall then showed her collection on catwalk. Here's what Pate had to say about the film.

This was my first time working with Hannah, but I think we understood each other quite quickly; Hannah works with this sort of Helmut Newton-esque muse in mind, but with a bit of a tougher edge. She explained to me the concept of the collection being something heavily based in identity and privacy, or lack thereof. The idea of wanting to slip between the cracks and not be recorded/documented/tracked constantly by a society that thrives on that sort of voyeurism.

So my treatment for the video was to shoot in night-vision, mixing the aesthetic of animals being caught late at night on
the nature channel with a cold, hard setting and really making it look more like she was caught on different cctv channels.

We used 5 statement looks from the collection and shot on location through the night to create something that was an accompaniment to what was just stomping down the catwalk. Black DVD's were slipped into the front row goodie-bags with copies of the video, so that someone curious could stumble onto it and see the clothes moving, and acting in quite a different way then the catwalk.
