Jacko once graced the cover of Dazed. Well, kind of. Back in July 2001 I came to Dazed & Confused as an intern to work on issue 79 for a college project. One of my first memories of the magazine was seeing Rankin mocking up a cover of Michael Jackson on the light box with the editors. To say I was awestruck is a huge understatement. It was frickin' Michael Jackson on the cover of Dazed!! WTF!!! Amazing!! Sadly, it turned out not to be Michael but a bloke called Navi, a Jacko impersonator from Ilford, Essex. After hearing the news of his death I looked at the issue again for the first time in years and re-read a piece on music PR Howard Bloom who worked with MJ in the 80s. "Michael Jackson taught me a degree of wonder that I had never experienced," Bloom said. "He perceives the world in a way that comes close to being angelic. Michael is a person whose reality goes so far beyond anything in fantasy, it's ridiculous. It's Harry Potter to the nth degree." I think that's quite a fitting obituary. Today let's forget all the weird shit, do a bit of moonwalking and play the songs. I'm sure Navi will be.
